Different Types of Cloud

Different types and classifications of the Cloud

What is the Cloud? Most businesses understand the general idea of the Cloud—services that are not running locally, on premise, and instead, are accessed remotely. For the most part, that is true. Cloud computing, as it is popularly referred to, is a delivery model where IT resources that are running remotely, are offered to users on a subscription basis (fee-for-service), and are most commonly accessed over the Internet.

Based on the implementation style, it is possible to classify cloud services into public, private, and hybrid.

Cloud Classifications – Based on Services Offered

Cloud Classification - IaaS, PaaS & SaaS

There are other cloud computing classifications available, based on the type of service being provided:

  • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
  • Platform as a Service (PaaS)
  • Software as a Service (SaaS)

Keep in mind, these services are constantly evolving, and the existing lines between them, are blurring. IaaS and PaaS are already blended, and many providers give you a hybrid form, covering both services.
